We're having the same problem - water will not spray. I am having this same issue. Suction is great, but no water or solution is spraying, not from the hose or the bottom of the machine. Not sure where to start troubleshooting or what parts to start replacing.

I hate to have to trash this thing, but im real close to it. My Bissell just stopped spraying from the bottom.

The hose attachment works and the vacuum works. I have cleaned everything that I could take off easily. The gasket is fine on the bottom of the tank so I am leaning toward a clog in the hose or nozzle, but I cannot find detailed blueprints on the machine. Our cleaner will not spray water from the bottom, but the hand tools work. We tried to prime it like bissel says and have had no luck. It still does not work. I refuse to crawl around and steam clean the floor. This is our second bissel steam cleaner and the first one was great we are not sure whats wrong with this one, except that it does not work.

Solution #2 did the trick for me, but I'm printing both solutions and storing them in my manual just in case. This is a huge relief for me as we have a new puppy and I really want to be able to clean up after him frequently. Thanks for taking the time to help us out! I have a bissell proheat 2x 8920 and it had stopped spraying at the handle and bottom.

I opened it and cleaned out the heater. Now when I turn it on, the bottom leaks even if I don't pull the trigger to spray the bottom. The good news is that I can spray through the hose now but I can't understand why there's a leak in the bottom housing unit. It's not leaking from the two red spray nozzles. When I opened the bottom housing unit, I notice that the cap showed alot of wetness from the solenoid valve area. I'm very confused. I don't know if the pump is going overdrive pushing the water forcefully through the heater and causing water to squirt somewhere after the heater where the lines meet the solenoid.

The water tank itself is just fine. I had the exact same problem with my ProHeat 2. It would spray only through the hose attachment but not on the floor. Cleaning of the spray endings on the floor unit fixed my problem.

Either soap deposits or dirt was clogging the spray endings. Here is what to do to clean up the spray endings: 1. Remove the water container from the bottom unit 2.

Look up for two red plastic endings on the bottom unit 3. Using your fingers to clip sides of an ending, carefully remove it from its slot 4. Using pliers, release the clamp from plastic ending and remove the red plastic ending from the hose 5.

Clean the ending 6. Put the ending back on the hose, slide clamp back on the ending 7.

Insert the ending back in its slot 8. Repeat 3-7 for the other ending That solved the problem for me!

Posted on May 17, 2009. I have had the same problem on and off since I bought this cleaner. Today I decided to take it apart and find out the solution. I thought the solution was gravity feed but found out there are two small pumps, one for the bladder solution and the other for the chemical feed. I certainly could have designed a much simplier machine, but what bissell has done is used the vaccuum pressure to pull the solution into the pump in order to prime it. If for many reasons there isn't enough vaccuum pressure the pumps will not prime.

What I did was put the tank on the machine without the top cover. I turned the machine on and reached up and held the trigger open with my other hand I put my palm over the vaccuum port for about 3 seconds and then allowed the air to flow back into the motor. I repeated this about 5 times until the pump primed I put the top lid on and locked it into place put it back onto the machine and it worked perfectly. Good luck with this problem. Sjl Posted on Mar 23, 2009. Does your hand tool spray? If yes, your pump is running, and the problem is either a stuck solenoid, blocked pipes.

Or most likely -blocked jets. Getting to to the solenoid is not a job for the faint hearted, so have a go at sorting the jets first. These are little square red jobbies hidden under a thin clear plastic cover under yor water tank. The tricky bit is trying to loosen the clear cover enough in order to get your fingers in to squeeze the clips and to get them to pop up.

If you succeed, squeeze the metal pipe clip to release it, then gently PUSH off the pipe. (pulling will only make it grip tighter. Once off, poke the pipe back down through to underneith, put the water tank on. Switch on and give the trigger a quick try.

If water comes out, success is not far away. Give your jet a good.

and blow under the tap, put it all back together and have a glass of wine. If water did not come out, you need to 'go in' deeper and wait until later for your reward.

You'll need to take off the entire top deck. This is a big mission, but do-able. If you can, get someone to video the strip down so you know the what goes where and when. Make sure you know where each individual screw comes from.

They are all different. Make sure your screw driver is a perfect fit, and above all, dont start the job after 7 pm! Essentially, you'll need to take off all of the clear plastic suction and brush pieces, then all of the screws from the flat bed under the water tank, then the screws from around the base under the shampoo tank.

Take a carful look at the rubber seal for the shampoo tank before you try to lift the deck. It'll pop off and you'll wonder how to get it back.

Watch out too for the red o-ring inside, You may also have to release the pipes to the shamppo suction snout.Again, take pictures first. After an hour, you'll be inside your machine and you'll realise why they cost so much. You'll see white gunk in the pipes. Clean them out, and as they say in the book, assembly is a simple reversal of the strip-down. TIP: When reassembling, always gently turn a screw backwards until you feel it drop into the old thread before turning the right way to tighten it. That way you won't end up mullering the thread and the whole thing falling apart.

Finally; Your machine blocked because you let it dry out with shampoo still in the pipes. Give the whole lot (including the shampoo bottle) a good flush through with plain water before you put it away, and never try try to use as a substitute for a vacuum clearer. This kit does not like dust!

Best of luck. Posted on Oct 21, 2010. To avoid mess and direct the water into a jug when flushing the pipes, get yourself a length of engine fuel tube for a radio controlled car or plane from your local model shop -about £2. After disassembling the unit at least three times while figuring out how everything worked, the final diagnosis was clogged lines just behind the red nozzles. The clogs where hidden under the spring protectors and not visible without removing the springs. After cleaning the lines and nozzles I ran the unit with just the main line emptying into a baking pan, to hopefully flush the system before putting the nozzles back on. Doing that is a pain and I'm not sure how much it helps.

Posted on Dec 01, 2009. I agree with vacwater: Bissell has made a really lousy machine here. My last one was a Bissell and I can't really complain because it worked for many years and I used it a lot. However, this machine no longer has the little wheel that you can see turning to let you know when the soap or water run out and it had a tendency to dispense far more water than it could vacuum up. When pulling it backward, I would always end up with a puddle behind the machine. Now it does not dispense any water.

If I could take it back I would. In the future I will go with something besides Bissell. We should not have to correct design problems in products like this. Posted on Oct 09, 2011. I had the same problem; no water from the spray jets under the base of the unit but the hand tool did spray water so the pump was OK.

Initially I thought it was just the spray jets, on inspection I found they were clogged up solid. I got these cleared out and cleaned the rest of the internal tubing while it was stripped down. After re-assembly still no water! After stripping it down again and testing the solenoid and trigger switch was OK I traced the fault to the heater assembly not allowing water through it. I removed the assembly and took out the 7 screws from the lid and scraped out all the muck inside it, washed it and reassembled it. Take care of the 5 orange O rings that some of the screws go through, one of mine got dropped and washed away down the sink and had to be replaced! Posted on May 03, 2012. I tried all the solutions listed here and none of them worked.

I was very close to giving up when I turned the unit on and tilted it back so that I could see that both roller brushes were turning, which they were. I noticed that some water started coming out of a hole near the back and assumed it was some sort of overflow exit and returned the unit to its vertical position. I then used the vacuum part (which was working) to.

up the water that had come out when it was tilted, and just out of habit, squeezed the spray trigger while I was at it. Low and behold, the vacuum started sucking up more liquid than had spilled out! I kept going over some more rug areas and it was still sucking water.

It was now spraying!! I'm guessing this was also some sort of pump priming problem. I'm very glad it works now because this was only the second time I used it and we all know what a hassle returns/warranty services are. So, another suggestion is to turn on the unit with a full bladder of liquid and tilt it backward. I also had tried those hold the trigger in for a minute and turn the unit on for a minute solutions so maybe they had helped too in some fashion. DO NOT TRY THIS UNLESS YOU ARE A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN!!

The problem I had was with the solenoid switch that is closest to the spray nozzles. This became obvious (after trying a million different things) because: 1) I had cleaned out the nozzles and the hose leading to them. 2) The unit sprayed from the handset but not the floor unit. 3) After priming the unit per the Bissell directions I could see fluid in all of the lines EXCEPT after this solenoid valve. While many may already know this, a solenoid is an electrical coil that when energized moves an actuator. This actuator is attached to a valve that allows the fluid to flow. Dried gunk on the valve may prevent the solenoid from opening the valve.

I removed the solenoid and tested it with 120 v (checking the rating on the label first). I cycled power several times and was able to free the valve which allowed the solenoid to actuate. I should have run the valve (NOT THE ENTIRE SOLENOID) under hot water first to loosen the gunk, and then tested the actuator. This unit is not that bad. The bottom line is to run through the rinse cycle everytime you use the unit to clean all the soap out of the lines.

Please check the following with liquid in both tanks. Check to see if the machine will spray through the hose with the setting on tools. If it does, the pump is fine. Continue troubleshooting. Check for debris on spray tips. Clean them with a soft brush (on old tooth brush works well).

The spray tips may be lifted out for easier access. Ensure the tank lid is properly attached to the bottom of the tank. To attach this properly, remove the Water Tank from the machine.

Hook the front window onto the lip of the bottom container and then allow the window with lid to cover the complete tank. Secure the latch on the back of the bottom tank to the back of the tank lid. THE TANK LID CANNOT BE ATTACHED PROPERLY IF THE BOTTOM TANK IS ALREADY INSTALLED IN THE MACHINE. Check the bottom of the Water Tank and the Formula Tank to make sure each has a red auto-load gasket attached.

Make sure the Water Tank and the Formula Tank are seated properly. Depress the x on this gasket to ensure this depresses and release back out. Liquid from the tank should dispense. Remove the handle completely and re-attach. Once the handle is re-attached, re-attempt to spray. If the machine continues to not spray, check the following: REMOVE THE COLLECTION TANK:. Make sure the unit is set to water rinse.

Remove the smart mix bottle and fill it with water only. Place the smart mix bottle into the collection tank reservoir. Run the unit and try to spray. If the machine sprays, you will be able to see the water level decreasing in the smart mix bottle and you will need to replace the bottom tank.
